A Sunday afternoon in Soho is a Sunday well spent.

New York finally has the hang of December weather, and everyone is pulling out their coziest hats and scarves. My cheeks are flushed with that winter glow as I make my way to church (shoutout to C3 Downtown. Much love.). Located near the J/Z Bowery stop, I’m in the perfect place for exploring one of the most charming neighborhoods of Manhattan: SoHo. Slang for “South of Houston” (because New Yorkers are too hip and hurried to communicated without abbreviations) SoHo is known for its high end design retailers,  trendy brunch places and hipster vibes. It also happens to be the home of several gourmet chocolatiers.

Becstick-with-me_31436880386_oause SoHo storefronts tend to favor minimal signage it’s easy to miss something if you don’t know what you’re looking for (I’m looking atchou “SG” Sweet Green). Which is exactly what happened to me as I purposefully strode down Mott Street, knowing exactly where I was going because I had Apple Maps. Despite being on the look out for an adorable chocolate shop, I still missed Stick With Me’s elegant storefront the first time around. Doubling back after I realized I was past the red pinpoint on my map, I was delighted to look up and see the word “SWEETS” emblazoned above the black and white striped awning.

Inside, the shop is simple, precise, and pristine; nothing more or less than what it needs to be. A glass case displays 25 different kinds of chocolate bon bons meticulously arranged into neat rows. And they shine. Literally. stick-with-meHandmade specialty chocolate ganache and polished molds give the gem-like sweets a glossy finish. Bright sparkling pinks and golds and greens and every color in between are inlaid in the chocolate shell and make these chocolates look more like pieces of modern art than edible delicacies.

This little shop is coming up on its 2 year anniversary, as founder and head chocolatier (trained at the prestigious Columbus Circle restaurant Per Se), Susanna Yoon, opened Stick With Me Sweets in December of 2014.

The singular employee behind the bar was very sweet (#punintended), and happily answered all my questions. After several inquires  (“What’s in the Vero? Ooh! And what about that one?”),  she recommended the Caramelized Banana. I personally am not stick-with-me_31474271175_oa big fan of banana flavored sweets, so I went with the ever appropriate New York, NY, which is describe as: “Chocolate-covered pretzel surrounded in a peanut butter praline, with colorful chocolate shell. As impressive as the city for which it’s named.” And let me tell you, it certainly lives up to its looming reputation. Ten out of ten. Highly recommend.

At $3.70 a piece, these chocolates are a little more expensive than their more muted competitors, but for a fun SoHo/Nolita adventure, it’s definitely worth the premium.stick-with-me-2
